LEARNING TO CHANT THE GAYATRI MANTRA
Saturday 19 Nov 1530-1630
Zoom ID 894 8920 4240

Lisa Kaley-Isley

We use the tools of yoga to experience the state of yoga: balanced, integrated, wholeness.  An integrated yoga practice employs asana to develop a strong and flexible body, pranayama to balance physiological functioning and vitality, and mindfulness, mantra, and meditation to direct attention, enhance concentration, invite positive attitudes, and stabilise retention of learning in memory.  One of the first mantra’s introduced to young people is also one of the oldest in human history – the Gayatri mantra referenced in the Rig Veda.  It is not appropriate in all environments to teach Sanskrit, but it is an essential part of yoga education to have some knowledge of it.  As teachers, we hopefully know more than we teach at any one time.  Then at the right time and place, we have more to share.  In this workshop I invite you to learn to chant and explain the enduring wisdom of the Gayatri mantra.
